Welcome Back to School!

    Welcome back to school!

To some of you, those might be unwelcome words after a summer of fun and relaxing, but that’s okay. Going back to school, while it always seems to happen far too soon, is one of the most exciting times of the year. You get new classes, new teachers, and, most importantly, the opportunity to make a fresh start. Here are some tips to help you make the most of this important opportunity…

    1. Show up on time. This might seem pretty basic, but with all of the confusion that usually accompanies the first week of school, this may be more challenging than you think. Make sure to allot yourself extra time to find your classrooms, your locker, or even the right building on campus! Teachers might understand a few latecomers on the first day or two, but their patience will wear thin if you start making tardiness a habit.
    2. Start getting organized—now! If you start the school year off on the right foot by writing down your homework assignments and important items to remember, it will already be an ingrained habit by the time the homework really starts pouring in! If you learn to organize both your time and your stuff, you will be eliminating unnecessary stress and getting a good start to the new year.
    3. Evaluate your relationships. Are your friends helping you or hindering you? If you find that your friends tend to cause lots of unnecessary drama or are leading you in the wrong direction, it may be time to re-evaluate. Stick with the friends who make you feel good about yourself while helping you do your best—and never hesitate to make new friends!
    4. Choose your attitude. As cheesy as it sounds, you are the person who decides how you look at life. Are you starting out the school year with a cynical outlook, or are you excited about the chance that this fresh start presents? A positive attitude can help you through the toughest times.
    5. Visualize your success. What are your dreams and goals for the coming year? Take some time to picture yourself achieving these goals. What steps will you need to take? What obstacles do you need to overcome? Write down the short-term goals that you will need to achieve in order to attain long-term success.

Best of luck in the new school year!
